A Frosty Morning

Friday, March 6th 2020

Early this morning parts of the reserve were coated white with frost.

Although the rising, warming sun was causing the frost to melt, but only where the sun could reach.

Long shadows were cast across the moor.

Whilst scanning the moor a Lapwing flew across and landed.  A very quick long distance photo.  One had been seen on Spigot Mere earlier in the week.

It is lovely to see the birds returning to Spigot Mere.  Pied Wagtails and an Oyster Catcher have also been sighted.  Greylag Geese are flying over and some are beginning to inspect the smaller ponds on the reserve.

Christmas Elf Trail

Saturday 5th December 2020 | During opening times

A self guided trail around the Red Route (pushchair and wheelchair friendly) to look for natural clues. Help Edward the Elf to find all of the ingredients for his magic potion and learn some fun facts along the way. He needs lots of items including twigs, feathers and autumn leaves.

No need to book as this is a self guided activity, just pick up a clue sheet from the Field Centre (only 50p) and bring your own pencil from home to tick of the items when you see them. If you spot Edward the Elf on your way around then please take his photo and upload it to our Facebook page!
