Foxglove Covert Local Nature Reserve covers 100 acres of moorland edge adjacent to Cambrai Lines at Catterick and has a remarkable mix of habitats and species. The reserve contains semi-natural woodland, heathland, flower-rich grassland, streams, ponds, a lake, willow and alder carr, coniferous woodlands and wet meadows.

Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service


Foxglove Volunteers have been awarded with The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. This is the highest award a voluntary group can receive in the UK and is often described as the MBE for voluntary groups!

The patchwork of habitats across Foxglove Covert Local Nature Reserve is home to more than 2600 species. Discover the reserve habitats here on our website.

At the heart of the reserve is a modern, purpose-designed Field Centre, a great place to start your visit and learn more about the wildlife of Foxglove Covert. 500m from the Field Centre is a bespoke outdoor classroom.

Due to an important event occuring on the camp, Foxglove Covert LNR will be closed for one day only on Moday 22nd April. The reserve will resume usual opening hours on Tuesday 23rd April.

Access to the Reserve: OPEN with limited access

Monday 18th March 2024 |

The reserve is now open, although again with limited access. Visitors will be able to access the reserve with the use of key fobs provided at the pass office upon entrance to the camp, or will be provided entrance and exit through the access gate by an officer from the camp Guard Room. In this case visitors will need a mobile phone to call the Guard Room when they wish to exit the reserve. Please be aware that due to these circumstances, entering and leaving the reserve might take a little longer than usual.

Access to the reserve


Access via Cambrai Lines front gate is always possible at any time during regular hours, outside normal opening hours is by arrangement only.


You will be asked to show photographic ID on entry to the barracks.

Weekends and Bank Holidays 10am-4pm
Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day
